I just realised that it has been 2 years since I was diagnoised with my tumour. 27th Feb 2008 is when they took my thyroid out and an egg sized tumour. It was 2 days after my 24th birthday and ironically the 27th is my brothers birthday too. I never realised how much the thyroid did and how little awareness there is. When people talk of tumours you think of the obvious ones, I know i did.
I noticed the lump many years before it was dianoised and was always told "its nothing" so i stupidly belived that. If i'd persisted and got it checked out sooner maybe i wouldnt have to of had my thyroid out. I dont want anyone else to be fobbed off - but its not something many people check.
Please keep a check on your neck! My tumour looked like an adam's apple - I often joked i was a man!
This is a (terrible) picture of me and a friend just before the diagnosis but it shows you what to look for.
If your interested in the "after" shots from surgery (please don't look if your squemish!) then follow this link to my FB page - i didnt want to upload them on here!
